Bodø & Lofoten Campervans

The Ultimate 7-Day Bodø to Lofoten Campervan Itinerary

A road trip from Bodø to the Lofoten archipelago is one of the most breathtaking drives in the world. You're planning an adventure of jagged peaks, turquoise fjords, and unforgettable midnattssol (midnight sun) or nordlys (northern lights). The best way to experience it all? With the freedom of a campervan.

Here is our ultimate 7-day itinerary, perfectly designed for a campervan adventure starting right here in Bodø.

🌞

Day 1: Bodø to Moskenes (The Ferry Crossing)

Your journey begins. Pick up your campervan in Bodø, stock up on supplies at a local grocery store, and head to the ferry terminal. The 3.5-hour ferry from Bodø to Moskenes is a stunning trip in itself, offering your first glimpse of the "Lofoten Wall" rising from the sea. Once you land, you're immediately in the heart of the islands' most dramatic landscapes. We recommend staying at the Moskenes Camping site, located right near the ferry dock, for an easy first night.

Day 2: Reine & Å (The End of the Road)

Wake up surrounded by mountains. Spend your day exploring the iconic villages of Reine and Å (literally the last letter of the Norwegian alphabet). Reine is often called the most beautiful village in the world, and you'll see why. Park your van and hike the famous Reinebringen trail for a view you'll never forget. In Å, explore the Tørrfiskmuseum (Stockfish Museum) and wander through the historic fishing village.

Day 3: Nusfjord & Flakstad (History & Beaches)

Drive north to Nusfjord, one of Norway's oldest and best-preserved fishing villages, now a UNESCO World Heritage site. Afterward, it's time for the beach! The arctic beaches at Flakstad and Ramberg are legendary, with white sands and bright blue water. It's the perfect spot to park your campervan, make lunch in your van's kitchen, and maybe even take a brave arctic surf or a cold plunge!

Day 4: Leknes & Haukland Beach

Leknes is the main "city" in this part of Lofoten and a great place to restock supplies. The real destination today is Haukland Beach, often voted Norway's best beach. With its crystal-clear water and mountain backdrop, it's a paradise for campervans. You can park nearby and hike the easy trail around the headland to the secluded Uttakleiv Beach, a famous spot for midnight sun and Northern Lights photography.

Day 5: Henningsvær (The Venice of Lofoten)

Today, drive to the vibrant fishing village of Henningsvær. Spread across several small islands connected by bridges, this village is filled with art galleries, cozy cafes, and the world's most famous football pitch. It's a fantastic place to park and explore on foot. Our campervans are compact enough to navigate the bridges and parking areas, giving you an advantage over larger motorhomes.

Day 6: Svolvær (The Capital of Lofoten)

Drive to Svolvær, the largest town in Lofoten, nestled at the foot of the towering Svolværgeita ("The Goat") mountain. You can hike the imposing Floya, take a RIB-boat tour to the Trollfjord, or simply enjoy the bustling harbor. This is a great place to enjoy a final "night out" at a restaurant before heading back.

Day 7: Ferry from Svolvær to Skutvik (or drive back to Bodø)

For your return, you have two great options. You can either drive the entire route back to Bodø (about 6-7 hours) or take the ferry from Svolvær to Skutvik on the mainland, which shortens the drive and gives you a new perspective. Enjoy a final scenic drive back to Bodø to drop off your campervan, filled with memories of an incredible week.
